Spain's Business Aviation industry at a glance
According to EBAA data, business aviation traffic in Spain grew 7.5% in 2017 compared with 2016, with a total of 45,533 departures. Spain ranks sixth in the list of European countries with most BizAv traffic, behind France (127,923 departures), Germany (98,482 departures), UK (98,311 departures), Italy (63,198 departures) and Switzerland (45,943 departures).
More than 60% of the total departures were private jet charters, while the remaining departures were classified as non-commercial, medical, government/military or training flights. Business aviation has a significant impact on Spain’s economy. It creates about 7,400 direct or indirect jobs, mainly related with Operations or Maintenance, and represents €1.38 billion in Output.
The 5.3% market share held by BizAv in Spain is relatively small compared to other European countries, like Switzerland or France where the market share reaches 17.6% and 13.4% respectively.
Spain’s TOP 5 BizAv airports are Madrid-Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Barcelona-El Prat and Malaga.
